Privacy Policy

What this site collects and what it does not, how cookie-free analytics work, what an outbound click logs, who processes data for us, and your rights.

This site is built to need as little of your data as possible. This page describes what actually happens, in the order it happens. Privacy Officer: the founder of Service Tech Select, reachable at contact@servicetechselect.com with the subject line “Privacy request”.

What we currently do not do

  • We do not operate user accounts, so there is nothing to sign in to and no profile of you.
  • We do not run a newsletter or a mailing list.
  • We do not use an advertising network, advertising cookies, tracking pixels or third-party advertising scripts.
  • We do not use our analytics to identify or follow individual visitors.
  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

If any of this changes, this page changes first, and the dates at the top change with it.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages are read and how the site performs. Cloudflare acts as our service provider. Per Cloudflare’s documentation the beacon is cookie-free and does not fingerprint individuals. The dimensions available to us in the dashboard are aggregate: page path, referring site, country, device type, browser and operating system, together with page-speed measurements. We use them for traffic, performance and security purposes only. There is no opt-out control on the site; the beacon sets no cookie and stores no identifier in your browser. Cloudflare’s privacy information describes its own processing.

When you click a commercial link to a vendor, it passes through an address on this site before it forwards you on, so we know which recommendations people find useful. What happens, step by step:

  1. What our redirect receives: the ordinary web request your browser makes, which reaches Cloudflare’s infrastructure first (see hosting below).
  2. What our application stores: the time, which product link was clicked, the path of the page on this site it was clicked from (never the full address or anything after it), an internal campaign label when the link carries one, and a coarse device class of mobile, desktop or automated worked out from your browser’s identification string. The string itself is not stored. Our application does not intentionally store your IP address, a cookie, or any identifier.
  3. What is forwarded to the destination: the vendor’s link, and, when an affiliate program is active, the program’s publisher or campaign parameters. Those parameters identify us as the referring site; they do not carry anything about you that our application stores.
  4. What Cloudflare processes: as the network the site runs on, Cloudflare processes standard request information, including your IP address, to deliver and protect the site.
  5. What the vendor or affiliate network may collect after the click: their own analytics, cookies and attribution, under their own privacy policies. We do not control what they collect.
  6. Retention and aggregation: click records are stored in a database on Cloudflare’s infrastructure and used only in aggregate; see below.

Hosting and service providers

Provider Purpose Data processed Where Control
Cloudflare (hosting, network, security, analytics, click database) Serving the site, protecting it, aggregate analytics, the outbound-click log Standard request data including IP addresses at the network layer; the aggregate analytics dimensions above; the click fields above Cloudflare’s global network, including outside Canada Network-layer logs are held by Cloudflare under its own retention and are not exported or stored by us; we see aggregate security and traffic analytics in its dashboard
Our email service providers Receiving, filtering and storing email sent to our contact address Your message, your email address and anything you include Their infrastructure, which may be outside Québec and Canada, including in the United States Messages are retained by us as described below and processed by the providers under their terms

Service providers may process or store data outside Québec and Canada. We rely on the safeguards in their published terms and privacy commitments, and we do not add providers to this list without updating this page.

When you contact us

We use your message and contact details to respond, investigate corrections or requests, maintain necessary records, and protect the inbox from abuse. We do not sell the message or add the sender to a marketing list. Our email and security service providers process messages on our behalf, and we may disclose information when required by law or when necessary to protect legal rights.

Do not send passwords, access keys, payment details, customer records or other sensitive information by email.

How long we keep it

  • Click records: up to 25 months, so a season can be compared with the one before it, then deleted. Only aggregate counts by page, product and month, with no timestamps or paths, may be kept longer.
  • Email: up to 24 months after the last exchange, then deleted. Ask sooner and it is deleted sooner.
  • Correction records: kept as part of the editorial record of the page. They describe what changed and why, not the person who reported it.
  • Provider logs: held by the providers above under their own retention, not by us.

Deletion happens on our side first; copies in a provider’s backups clear on that provider’s schedule. Retention may be extended where a legal obligation, a dispute, or the security of the site requires it.

Your rights and how to exercise them

You can ask what personal information we hold that relates to you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, withdraw consent where our use rests on it, and ask a question or make a complaint about any of this. Email contact@servicetechselect.com with the subject line “Privacy request”. We may ask you to confirm that the request comes from the address concerned before we act on it. We answer within the time the applicable law allows, and in any case as quickly as we can.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the privacy authority that applies to you. For Québec that is the Commission d’accès à l’information; for the rest of Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada; elsewhere, the authority in your jurisdiction.

How information is protected

The site is static and has no user accounts. Access to the click database and to the contact inbox is limited to the site’s operator, connections to the site use encryption in transit, and we rely on the safeguards of the providers listed above. We keep as little as the purposes above require. If a privacy incident presents a risk of serious injury, we notify the affected people and the relevant authority as the law requires. To report a concern, email the contact address with the subject line “Privacy request”.

Children

This site is aimed at people running businesses. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this page

If what we collect, who processes it, or how long we keep it changes, this page changes first, the “last updated” date at the top changes with it, and a note below records what changed. We do not expand how we use information merely by editing this page.
